My father is turning 60 in a few months. He isn't taking it too well and has started to notice more and more gray hairs protruding from his scalp. His body has more aches and pains nowadays too. He's actually dreading his birthday this year, not that I blame him. Our family has decided to throw him a surprise birthday party and make a big celebration out of it. We're having it catered and holding it in a hotel's conference room. Amazingly, it isn't costing us more than $300 for everything. Just like every holiday season, 2006 tends to be extremely hectic. I just can not go to plan for shopping with my eleven-month-old baby to take with me on every shopping excursion. As many of my nephews and nieces are teenagers, I also find ir really very difficult to know what to get for teens as gifts. A few years ago, my grandparents celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary.  Through those fifty years, they had celebrated the births of four children, eight grandchildren, new jobs and also mourned the loss of family members and friends and comforted each other through illnesses.  They had been through so much together that finding a 50th anniversary gift seemed arbitrary and as though nothing we could purchase could signify those fifty years that they had spent together.
